Jeju Island โ Fog, Canola & Crater Cliffs
A day spent chasing light through Jeju's mist โ from the volcanic silhouette of Seongsan Ilchulbong to fields burning gold with canola and a forest alley that felt like the end of the world.
THE STORY
Some of the best shoots happen when the weather refuses to cooperate. We woke up to a Jeju that had wrapped itself in fog โ the kind that softens every hard edge, turns the familiar strange, and makes every frame feel like it was pulled from a film still. We didn't fight it. We shot into it.
Over the course of the day we moved through three entirely different worlds: the ancient volcanic drama of Seongsan Ilchulbong, the surreal yellow bloom of canola fields near Jorangmal Horse Park, and the cathedral-like quiet of a tree alley. Each location gave us something the others couldn't. Together they made a Jeju I want to return to every spring.
Chapter One
Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak) โ
The Crater in the Clouds
Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak) is one of Jeju's UNESCO-listed volcanic formations. On a clear day the views are legendary. On a foggy spring morning, they're something else entirely โ the crater rim disappears into white, the sea turns to slate, and every human figure becomes a silhouette against geology that's 100,000 years old.
"The fog didn't ruin anything. It made everything quieter, more deliberate โ the kind of light that tells you exactly which moment matters."
Chapter Two
Canola โ
Fields Burning Yellow
Jeju's canola season turns whole hillsides into something that barely looks real. Near Jorangmal Horse Park, the yellow runs uninterrupted to the horizon โ and on a foggy day, the contrast between those gold petals and the pale grey sky is almost violent in the best way.
Chapter Three
The Tree Alley at the Edge of Everything
Near the entrance of the park lies a stretch of road flanked by trees so tall and so perfectly aligned they feel like architecture. In the fog, with the branches arching overhead and the light coming from everywhere and nowhere, it becomes something out of a European arthouse film. We shot here last โ tired, quiet, and making some of the best frames of the day.
"Jeju in the fog is a different island entirely. Slower, quieter, more willing to show you the version of itself that doesn't get photographed."
